DePorto Named CGASPORTS.COM Athlete of the Week
Coast Guard Academy senior middle blocker Kelsey DePorto has
been named the CGASPORTS.COM Athlete of the Week after registering
her 1,000th career kill and leading the Bears to a
perfect 4-0 record at the Brandeis Invitational.
DePorto and the Bears beat Rhode Island College and Emmanuel both
by scores of 3-0 on Friday night before beating Trinity 3-2 and
host Brandeis 3-0 as the team ran its win streak to five straight
and improved to 5-2 on the young season.
She became the 10th player in school history to record
1,000 career kills and now has 1,013 total as she finished the
weekend with 58 kills and a .405 hitting percentage to earn a spot
on the All-tournament team.
DePorto leads the Bears with 109 kills and a .390 hitting
percentage.
The Bears are off all week before they travel to take on archrival
Merchant Marine on Saturday at noon. Coast Guard has won 11
straight against the Mariners. The Bears have not dropped a set to
the Mariners since a 3-1 win in 1999.
