Senior Claire Hurley has been named the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women’s Soccer Offensive and CGASPORTS.COM Athlete of the Week, presented by First Command after her second career hat trick led the Bears to a 3-0 win over Wheaton to secure the highest seed in program history in the upcoming conference tournament.
For the first time the Bears will be the #2 seed and host #7 Babson on Tuesday night at 7:00 in the quarterfinals. It is the second straight season the Bears will host a NEWMAC tournament game after beating WPI 1-0 on goal by Hurley a year ago before falling to top-seeded MIT in the semifinals.
Hurley tied the program record for career goals on Saturday as she finished the game with 33 to tie Hillary Allegretti (2001-’04). She also set the school record for career points with 85 on Saturday and she already holds the record for most career assists at the Academy with 19.
Her hat trick on Saturday was the second of her career, she also did it earlier this season in a win over Wentworth.
Hurley, who played the first two games of the season in goal for the Bears, before returning to her natural position, leads the team this season with 10 goals, five assists and 25 points.
