Sophomore Kaitlyn Mooney has been named the CGASPORTS.COM Athlete of the Week, presented by First Command.
The All-American, running her first ever 5,000 meters during the indoor season, continued her outstanding sophomore campaign by running a school-record and career best time of 16:27.30 at the BU Dave Hemery Invitational on Friday to shatter her own school record by 1 minute and 22 seconds. That time is the fastest in Division III this season and second fastest ever in the Division.
In that race she placed fourth among professional and Division I and II runners.
On Saturday, she ran the mile leg of the DMR anchoring at 4:53 in the 1,600 to help Coast Guard post the fifth fastest time in Division III this season with a 11:52.52.
Mooney now has the fastest 3,000 and 5,000 meter times in Division III this season. Her 3,000 meter time is the 125th fastest in the world while her 5,000 meter time is 55th in world.
The Bears are back in action on Saturday at the Springfield Invitational.
