NEW LONDON, Conn. – Freshman Kaitlyn Mooney was named CGASPORTS.COM Athlete of the Week, presented by First Command, after winning the 5K, running a leg of the school record 4x800 team and helping the Bears to their best finish in program history at the Division III New England Championship on Saturday.
Mooney was Coast Guard's top finisher, taking home first place in the 5K (17:11.75). Mooney took the top spot by 20 seconds. She has the second fastest 5K in school history (16:53.70) which is currently 13th in Division III.
Mooney then ran the third leg on the 4x800 with freshman Maeve Roach, sophomore Olivia Suski, and senior Ashlee Johnsonran which finished in third place in a school record time of 9:31.13.
The Coast Guard women’s track & field team earned their best finish in program history taking home third place with 60 points.
Coast Guard is back in action next weekend at the All-New England Championship hosted by Dartmouth.
