Sullivan Named CGASPORTS.COM Athlete of the Week

NEW LONDON, Conn. - Junior Chris Sullivan was named CGASPORTS.COM Athlete of the Week for winning the 157 pound championship at the Roger Williams Invitational this past weekend.

Sullivan won five matches at Roger Williams including beating two opponents ranked ahead of him in the national rankings.

Sullivan, ranked seventh in the nation at 157, used a technical fall and two pins on his way to semifinals of the 157 bracket where he dispatched of Tyler Herzog, sixth in the nation, of Roger Williams, taking a 8-2 decision.

In the championship match, Sullivan then beat Jeff Hojnacki, fourth in the nation, of Messiah, earning an 8-4 decision keeping him undefeated on the season at 6-0.

Sullivan's victory helped Coast Guard to a fifth place finish at the invitational in a competitive field.. Three of the teams ahead of Coast Guard are all ranked in the 10 in the nation, RWU (8), York (10) and Steven (5), while the other team Johnson & Wales is a regional power. The Bears were also able to pull an upset on the day as well, finishing a spot ahead of the number two team in the country, Messiah. 
The Bears are back in action this weekend at The Doug Parker Invitational hosted by Springfield College.
