Junior Noah Baldez has been named the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Co-Defensive Athlete of the Week and the CGASPORTS.COM Athlete of the Week, presented by First Command as he helped lead the Bears to a pair of NEWMAC wins including a win at Babson to snap a 15-game losing streak to the Beavers and beat them for the first time since 2011.
Baldez averaged 15.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, four assists and five steals per game as the Bears beat Wheaton 94-78 before a 76-60 road win at Babson.
He had 13 of his 19 points and all four steals in the second half of the huge road win at Babson.
Baldez shot 52.2 percent from the floor (12-23) and was a perfect 7 for 7 from the foul line an in the 2-0 week for the Bears, who have climbed back into the race for a NEWMAC tournament spot.
The Bears are now 12-6 passing their win total of 11 from last season. The 12 wins are the most since the 12 victories in the 2008-’09 season.
Coast Guard is back in action on Wednesday night in a key NEWMAC game at Springfield at 5:30. The Pride lead the Bears by one game for the fifth and final NEWMAC tournament spot with six conference games remaining.
