Bishop Named CGASPORTS.COM Athlete of the Week
Coast Guard Academy junior Abby Bishop has been named the
CGASPORTS.COM Athlete of the Week as she placed second of 13
competitors in the pentathlon at the Tufts University Invitational
on Friday.
Bishop, who already owns the school record in the pentathlon with
2,983 points, was the top Coast Guard performer of the weekend with
her second place finish. She scored 2,944 on Friday which is the
second highest score in New England Division III this season, the
top 12 qualify for the Division III New England Championships at
Bates on Feb. 15th and 16th.
She started off the day with a time of 9.87 in the 60 meter
hurdles, the third fastest time in the competition. In the next
event, she soared over a collegiate best of 4 feet, 10.5 inches in
the high jump.
In the shot put, her best mark of the day was 29 feet, 5.5 inches
followed by a long jump mark of 16 feet .75 inches, which was the
second best performance in the competition. Closing out the day,
Bishop ran a 2:37.45 in the 800 meters.
