Coast Guard sophomore Christina Frost has been named CGASPORTS.com Athlete of the Week for her performance at the Women’s College Sailing Singlehanded National Championship over the weekend.
Frost, a skipper on the sailing team, finished third in dramatic fashion at the 2013 Women’s College Sailing Singlehanded National Championship, by winning her last race to finish third at the event. Her third place finish is the best for the Bears at the event since 2008.
Early in the event, Frost quickly established herself as one of the favorites, finishing consistently amongst the top group. Conservative starts, superior boat speed, and smart decision-making allowed her to comfortably remain in a close group of sailors all competing for a podium position.
Going into the final race, Frost found herself in 4th place, only one point behind Brown's Sky Adams. Frost engaged on the starting line but allowed Adams to split to the favored right side of the course. Knowing she had to make up for being on the left, Frost kicked it into high gear and just barely managed to tack one boat length ahead of Adams at the first windward mark.
Frost and the rest of the Coast Guard team will return to action on Saturday, November 16th when they travel to Ithaca, N.Y. to compete at the Atlantic Coast Championship hosted by Cornell University.
