For the second time in three weeks, freshman pitcher Kristine Kahl has been named CGASPORTS.COM Athlete of the Week.
In a week that saw the Bears go 3-1 with victories over national powerhouse Eastern Connecticut and regional powerhouses Babson and Wheaton in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference Tournament.
In the regular season finale against Eastern Connecticut, Kahl limited the high-powered Warriors to just one run in a complete-game 3-1 victory. Eastern Connecticut came into the game averaging more than 7.5 runs per contest.

In the opener, Kahl out-dueled Babson’s Kathleen Conway for a 1-0 Coast Guard win. In the nightcap Kahl continued her great work in holding Wheaton in check offensively as the Bears rallied for a 3-2 victory to secure a spot in the winner’s bracket final of the NEWMAC Tournament against top-seeded and host Springfield College on Saturday at 10:00 a.m.
Coast Guard, which has won three straight NEWMAC tournament championships, will be making it first appearance in the winners bracket final.
For the week, Kahl was 3-0 with a miniscule ERA of 1.00 in three complete-game efforts, allowing just 16 hits for a .208 opponent’s batting average. She is now 15-6 on the year with a 2.32 ERA.
Coast Guard is now 22-15 on the season and is assured of finishing no worse than third place in the NEWMAC Tournament, after going 7-9 in conference play and earning the sixth seed in the tournament for the second straight season.
