NEW LONDON, Conn.--Freshman Rebekah Muller has been named both New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference Volleyball Co-Player of the Week and CGASPORTS.COM Athlete of the Week. The awards were announced Monday by the NEWMAC and Sports Information Office, respectively.
Muller was tremendous this past week as Coast Guard went 3-0 (1-0 NEWMAC) with impressive five-set victories over both Conn. College and Vassar. She was especially exceptional against Vassar, recording a match-high 21 kills (including the match-winner).
She posted double-doubles in two of three matches for the Bears, narrowly missing on a third (8 kills, 11 digs) on her way to finishing the week with 45 kills and 42 digs, good for 15 kills per match and 14 digs per match, respectively.
According to head coach Aylene Ilkson, “She was the force that carried us against Vassar and the single biggest difference-maker in winning the match.”
The Bears are now 21-6 on the season following their perfect week and have secured entry into the NEWMAC Tournament, scheduled to begin on Tuesday, November 5th at campus sites.
Coast Guard returns to action on Tuesday, October 29th when they travel to take on Wellesley at 7:00 pm before returning home on Saturday, November 2nd to close out the regular season against MIT.
