Senior Dana Rohde has been named the CGASPORTS.COM Athlete of the Week presented by First Command as she won the New England Women’s Singlehanded Championship this weekend.
Rohde becomes just the second Coast Guard female to win the New England Championship as Krysia Pohl won the event in both 1994 and again in 1996.
She quickly established herself among the top group by putting together a consistent score line with only one finish outside the top-10. Going into Sunday, she sat in fourth place overall, just eleven points outside of the lead.
On Sunday, Rohde finished second in each of the two races sailed and was able to put enough points between her and the sailors above her to take over the lead. She finished with 47 points to take home the New England title and advance to the National Championship which will be held in St. Petersburg, Florida on Nov. 4th and 5th.
