NEW LONDON, Conn. – Junior Hayden Short and senior Angel Fay have been named USARUGBY Women's Collegiate DII All-Americans for the 2016-17 season.
Short, a lock, was named a first team All-American while Fay, a center was named to the second team.
Coast Guard participated in the USARUGBY Collegiate Women's Fall Championships in 2016, advancing as one of the four finalists at Furman University.
Short, a first year player, distinguished herself throughout the season and in the national championship tournament leading the way with physical defense and powerful carries in attack.
Fay anchored a solid Coast Guard backline through to the national tournament. She demonstrated positional savy and an explosive turn of speed. Fay was able to find space in the defense for her own attacking runs and gaps through which to put her teammates.
The Women's All-Americans were chosen by a panel of coaches based on recommendations from coaches and the performances of the athletes throughout the year.
