Mary Bitzer is in her third season as head coach of the Coast Guard women's lacrosse team.
Bitzer has led the Bears to back-to-back winning seasons with a combined record of 15-9 over the past two seasons. The club team which started in 2005 had never had a winning season and had a record of 21-40 in its first seven seasons before Bitzer was named head coach.
A 2009 graduate of the Academy with a degree in Management, Bitzer was a member of both the lacrosse and volleyball teams during her days as a cadet. During her four years on the volleyball team, the Bears won earned a pair of berths to the ECAC New England tournament, won an ECAC championship and earned a berth to the Elite 8 of the NCAA Tournament in 2006.
In addition to coaching lacrosse, Bitzer is currently serving as the Military Aide to the Superintendent as a Lieutenant in the Coast Guard.
