Lieutenant Silverman is a 2004 graduate of the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London, CT where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Operations Research and Computer Analysis.
His initial assignment was as a Deck Watch Officer onboard USCGC THETIS (WMEC 910), homeported in Key West, Florida. Lieutenant Silverman was next assigned as the Executive Officer onboard USCGC MONSOON (WPC 4) homeported in San Diego, California. Lieutenant Silverman also served on the Atlantic Area Cutter Forces staff as the fund’s manager, providing fiscal oversight to 30 major cutters.
Lieutenant Silverman assumed command of U.S. Coast Guard Cutter ASSATEAGUE (WPB 1337) on 12 July 2012. As the Commanding Officer, he was responsible for mission execution, safety, readiness and material condition of an OCONUS 110’ Patrol Boat in execution of Homeland Security (HLS), Ports, Waterways & Coastal Security (PWCS), Maritime Law Enforcement (MLE), and Search and Rescue (SAR) throughout the two million square nautical mile area of responsibility in the remote U.S. territories of Guam and the Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI).
His awards include three Coast Guard Commendation Medals and two letters of Commendations. He has earned the permanent Cutterman’s insignia and the Command Alfoat insignia.
During his 4.5 years as a cadet he played forward and assisted coaching for one season. In 2004, Silverman earned All NEWMAC honors. He continued his soccer with the Armed Forces sports program when he competed on the All-Navy Soccer team in 2009 and 2010.
