Coast Guard has an off day today on its southern swing to Ft. Myers, Florida and that gave us a chance to talk to senior co-captain catcher Lukas Laplante, one of just two seniors on this very young Coast Guard team.
The Bears are coming off an 11-5 win over Elms yesterday and are now 2-3 on the trip and 2-5 overall.
Last season the team won a school-record 24 games and advanced to the ECAC Tournament Championship game, but that team had 14 seniors graduate.
Laplante is off to a great start hitting .391 while leading the team with four extra base hits in the seven games while working with a very young pitching staff behind the plate.
Coast Guard is back in action on Friday at 10 a.m. when the Bears take on Defiance (Ohio) in a doubleheader.
