Bears Win Streak Snapped

FORT MYERS, Fla. –  Coast Guard saw its school record tying winning streak to open the season snapped at five as the Bears were swept by Gettysburg losing the opener 4-3 and the nightcap 8-3 at the Gene Cusic Classic.

Sophomore Tim Duncan homered in each game for the Bears, the first two homers of his collegiate career.

In the opener, Coast Guard would score first in the first on and RBI single by Duncan scoring junior Blake Thompson, who led off the game with a double, for a 1-0 lead.

The Bullets (6-2) got two in the second and added a run in the fourth for a 3-1 lead before senior Matt Hanks tripled and scored on an RBI ground ball by junior Ed Lazowski to cut the deficit to 3-2 in the fifth.

Gettysburg scored a run in the home half of the fifth for a 4-2 lead before Duncan blasted a solo shot to right field to lead off the sixth making the score 4-3, but the final six Bears were retired after the homer to snap the winning streak.

Senior Andy Lucak (0-1) started and took the loss allowing four runs, two earned in five innings striking out five and not walking a batter.

Duncan had two hits and two RBI's in the opener for the Bears.

In game two, Gettysburg scored three in the second and four in the fifth for a 7-0 lead en route to the 8-3 win.

Duncan got the Bears on the board with a towering two-run homer to right center in the sixth before sophomore Brendan McNeil doubled and later scored on a ground out by freshman Chris Clark to make the score 7-3.

Sophomore Colton Cannon (0-1) took the loss allowing seven runs, four earned in 4 2/3 innings. Freshman Cody Bain allowed just one unearned run 2 1/3 innings of relief allowing just one hit, walking one and fanning one.

Junior Kyle Wood was 3 for 3 with a run scored in the nightcap.

The Bears, who drop to 5-2 on the season, close out the southern swing on Saturday at 4 p.m. against Wisconsin-Platteville before heading home.
