FORT MYERS, Fla. – Sophomore Jon Pressley had a career-high four hits as he went 4 for 4 and Coast Guard erupted for five runs in the second en route to a 7-5 win over Gallaudet at the Gene Cusic Classic.
Junior Walter Harris pitched six solid innings and allowed five hits, four runs, two earned while walking two and striking out six to pick up the win. Sophomore Ben Webster,allowed a run over two innings before junior Bryan Delp pitched perfect ninth to register his first collegiate save. It was the first appearance of the season for all three Coast Guard pitchers.
The Bears improved to 3-1 on the season while Gallaudet dropped to 2-11-1.
Junior Luke Thompson led off the bottom of the first with a single before classmate Will Stephens got the Bears on the board with an RBI double.
The Bison would tie the game in the second on an RBI single by freshman Dante Paulone.
Coast Guard would score five times in the second , scoring first on an error. Thompson later walked with the bases loaded before junior Jake Behne ripped a two-run single. Junior Reed Jenkins would add a sacrifice fly as the Bears took a 6-1 lead. Coast Guard would add an unearned run in the fourth extending the lead to 7-1.
Gallaudet got three runs in the fifth and one in the seventh to cut the deficit to 7-5.
Behne added a pair of hits while Thompson scored three runs and stole a pair of bases in the win.
The Bears are back in action on Wednesday when they take on Wilmington College of Ohio in the Gene Cusic Classic at noon.
