WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State trailed 8-2 before scoring four in the seventh and six in the eighth to beat Coast Guard 12-8 in non-conference game.
Westfield State improved to 12-11-1 overall while the Bears drop to 6-12 on the season.
Luke Thompson, Jon Pressley and Alex Murdoch all had three hits for the Bears while Reed Jenkins added a pair of hit in Coast Guard's 16 hit attack. It was Thompson's fifth game this season with three or more hits and the third for Pressley.
The Bears scored four times in the third to take a 5-1 lead as Tom Ankers and Jeremy Lhotka had RBI singles in the inning.
Coast Guard led 5-2 before adding three more in the seventh on RBI singles by Murdoch and Jenkins extending the lead to 8-2.
The Owls pulled to within 8-6 with four runs in the seventh before exploding for six more in the eighth to complete the comeback win.
Nate Ralph went 6 2/3 innings and allowed six hits and six runs, five earned while walking four and fanning two.
Owen Hurley (0-1) took the loss as he was touched for four runs, all earned in the eighth.
Coast Guard is back in action on Tuesday when the Bears host MIT in a NEWMAC game at 3:30.
