NEW LONDON, Conn. – Senior catcher Jeremy Lhotka has been named a D3baseball.com All-region honorable mention selection and will play in the DII/DIII New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) All-Star game on May 31st at Dunkin Donuts Stadium in Hartford.
The All-Star game matches the College All-Stars (Divisions II and III) against the University All-Stars (Division I).
Lhotka, the Bears catcher, became the first Coast Guard player since 2006 to hit over .400 as he finished the season with a .415 batting average which was second best in the NEWMAC this season and seventh best in a single-season at the Academy.
He finished the year with 36 RBI's the second most in a single season and his 49 hits this year are tied for the second most in a single-season while his 13 doubles are the second in a season in program history. Lhotka also led the Bears with five homers this season.
Lhotka got off to a hot start in Florida, as he had a stretch of 11 straight hits during the trip and carried the momentum throughout the season. He hit safely in 29 of 34 games and had 14 multi-hit games including five games with three or more hits.
The All-Star game festivities will begin with a Home Run Derby at 11:00 followed by the game at noon.
