Resch, Henning Named NEFC Players of the Week
NEW LONDON, Conn.--Coast Guard Academy senior quarterback Jon Resch and freshman kicker Tyler Henning were named Players of the Week by the New England Football Conference (NEFC) following the Bears 31-28 overtime win at Worcester State on Saturday.
Resch ran for three touchdowns including a 5-yard run with 33 seconds left in regulation to tie the game 28-28. He was 17 of 35 for 306 yards while also throwing for a touchdown and adding 43 rushing yards on ten carries in the win.
He set the single-season school records for yards (2,200) and completions (185) in the win. He also eclipsed the 4,000 yard mark for his career and now has 4,255 passing yards.
Resch leads the NEFC with 314.3 passing yards and 337.3 yards of total offense per game. He is 185 of 311 for 2,200 yards with 17 touchdowns, just two shy of the single-season school record of 19 set by Dan Warren in 1996. Resch is 10th nationally with his 337.3 yards of total offense per game.
Henning made by far the most important field goal of his young career with a 27-yard game winner in overtime while also making all four of his extra points in the Bears first overtime win since 1997. Henning is a perfect 33 of 33 on extra points this season and he is 5-for-9 on field goal attempts.
The Bears, who won just four games total the last two seasons (4-14), are 4-3 overall and 3-2 in the NEFC Bogan Division with two home games left this season.
