11 Named to NEFC All-Academic Team
NEW LONDON, Conn.--The Coast Guard Academy placed 11 players on the New England Football Conference (NEFC) All-Academic team announced on Thursday.
The senior class led the way with seven players named to the team, six of them earning honors for the third straight season.
Senior linebackers Parker Bateson (Operations Research/Computer Analysis) and Nate Turner (Operations Research/Computer Analysis). Defensive lineman Jeb Slick (Management) and Ben Hinchman (Civil Engineering), offensive lineman Mike Rauch (Electrical Engineering) and defensive back Justin Dougherty (Naval Architecture/Marine Engineering) were all honored for the third straight year while Jed Daleiden (Operations Research/Computer Analysis), the starting center, earned All-Academic honors for the second straight year.
Junior wide receiver Nick Fredericksen (Operations Research/Computer Analysis) earned All-Academic honors for the second straight season while junior defensive back Evan Rothfeld (Government), junior offensive lineman Mike Vitrano (Management), who will be a co-captain in 2013, along with sophomore linebacker Nolan Salyer (Marine and Environmental Sciences) were named to the team for the first time.
To earn a spot on the NEFC All-Academic team, a player must have completed three semesters at the same institution with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale.
