NEW LONDON, Conn.-As the fall semester winds down and our Cadet-Athletes are wrapped up in exams the Athletic Department will take a look at the Top Moments from the Coast Guard fall sports season. The Department has compiled a top-ten list and will unveil one a day for ten business days starting with number ten and culminating with the announcement of the top moment on Tuesday, December 24th.
Today's Top Moment look will focus on football coach Bill George, who became the Academy's All-Time wins leader following a 40-0 victory over Maine Maritime on October 19th. Coach George passed legendary coach John Merriman (1930-45) with his 49th victory against the Mariners.
Freshman quarterback Derek Victory was 21 of 23 passing for 186 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Bears to their third New England Football Conference victory of the season. Coast Guard finished the season 3-7 (3-4 NEFC) and is now 49-92 with a pair of NEFC Bogan Division Championships in Coach George's 15 years at the helm.
