NEW LONDON, Conn.-The U.S. Coast Guard Academy had four players selected to the 2014 usacollegefootball.org preseason All-America Team as announced by the organization.
Senior wide receiver Collis Brown and senior defensive end Aaron Black were both named to the first team, while senior linebacker Victor Rizzardi was a second team pick, and senior defensive end Joel Wyman was a third team honoree.
Brown was a first team All-NEFC selection a year ago leading the conference in both receptions (67) to go along with a single-season Coast Guard record of 983 receiving yards. He set school single-game records with 16 receptions and 244 receiving yards during a 41-38 victory over Western New England last year. He is on pace to eclipse the school career records for receptions (159 by Sam England, 2006-09) and receiving yards (2,356 by Christian Lee, 1993-96).
Black was also a first team All-NEFC pick last year after leading all NEFC linemen with 101 tackles, including 62 solo. For his career Black has 156 tackles, 99 solo, and eight sacks while starting in 18 of the 20 games he's appeared in.
Rizzardi was chosen to the All-NEFC second team a season ago after tallying 64 tackles, 39 solo along with a pair of sacks and an interception. For his career Rizzardi has registered 143 tackles, 93 solo, nine for loss, 3.5 sacks, two fumble recoveries, and an interception.
Wyman was named a second team All-NEFC selection last year after making all 10 starts while totaling 67 tackles, 26 solo and tied for the team lead with 6.5 tackles for loss to go with two sacks. For his career he's appeared in 16 games, making 10 starts with 92 tackles, 46 solo, 10.5 tackles for loss, three sacks, and a fumble recovery.
Coast Guard will kick off the 2014 season at home on Saturday, September 6th when they host St. Lawrence at 1:00 pm at Cadet Memorial Field.
