Four Named to NEFC All-Conference Team

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Coast Guard had four players named to the New England Football Conference (NEFC) All-Conference team voted on by the NEFC coaches.

Senior strong safety Joe Rizzardi earned first team honors for the third straight season while senior Tyler Henning was named to the first team as both the kicker and the punter. Henning earns first team punter honors for the second straight season and first team kicker honors for the first time in his career.

Senior linebacker tri-captain Kyle Wood and senior left guard tri-captain Tom Condon were named to the second team. Wood earns All-conference honors for the third straight season. He was a second team selection in 2013 and a first team selection in 2014. Condon earns All-conference honors for the first time.

Rizzardi led the Bears with 84 tackles, 62 solo, 5.5 tackles for loss and four interceptions, two of which he returned for touchdowns to go with a fumble recovery, a forced fumble and a pair of blocked kicks. He led all defensive backs in the NEFC in tackles.

Henning led the NEFC and is sixth nationally with a 41.5 yard average per punt. He led the conference with 23 punts inside the 20-yard line and 13 punts of over 50 yards including a season-long 69 yard punt.

He was 19 of 20 converting a NEFC-best 95% of his extra points while making seven of 12 field goals this year to finish his career with a school-record tying 28 field goals while making 98 of 101 extra points in his four years.

Wood, who missed the season opener with an injury, led the Bears and was second in the NEFC with 9.2 tackles per game. He had 83 tackles, 47 solo, with 1.5 tackles for loss and a sack.

Condon, who started for the third straight season at left guard for the Bears, becomes the first Coast Guard offensive lineman to be named to the All-conference team since the NEFC scrapped the two division format and just honored one group of All-conference performers.

The Bears finished 5-5 overall and 4-3 in the conference good for fourth place after being picked to finish sixth in the NEFC preseason poll. The Bears finished .500 or better for just the second time in the last eight years.
