NEW LONDON, Conn. – The 2017 Coast Guard Academy football schedule has been finalized and the Bears will play six home games and renew several old rivalries as New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) football debuts this season.
Coast Guard competed in the New England Football Conference (NEFC) for the past 11 seasons before the conference's final season in 2016.
This season will be highlighted with the annual battle for the Secretaries' Cup, this game has been moved to the final game of the season. It will be played on Veteran's Day, Nov. 11th and will be broadcast by the ESPN Family of Networks.
Coast Guard and Merchant Marine played the final game of the season from 1991-2005 before the Bears joined the New England Football Conference (NEFC) and with the NEFC's two division format, the final week of the regular season had to be left open for the conference championship game.
The Bears will renew rivalries with Union in a non-conference game as well as Norwich, Springfield and WPI in NEWMAC play this season. Coast Guard last played Springfield in 2003 and Union, Norwich and WPI in 2005.

Coast Guard will once again open the season on a Thursday at home hosting Alfred State, the first ever meeting between the two teams, on August 31st at 7 p.m.
The Bears first of four road games will be at Union on Sept. 9th. Coast Guard will also visit Norwich in the NEWMAC opener on Sept. 23rd, Maine Maritime on Oct. 17th and WPI on Nov. 4th.
Coast Guard will host Nichols in the final non-conference game of the season on Sept. 16th before hosting Catholic for Parents' Weekend on Sept. 30th, Springfield (Nov. 7th), MIT for Homecoming on Oct. 21st before returning home to host Merchant Marine on Nov. 11th.
