Ray is in his 14^th  season as a member of the Bears coaching staff
    
He has been the Offensive Coordinator for the past eight seasons while also coaching the quarterbacks. He was the Defensive Coordinator for his first six years on the Bears coaching staff.

The Bears offense has thrived under LaForte as the Bears won back-to-back New England Football Conference (NEFC) Bogan Division Championships in 2006 and 2007 while setting a school-record with 14 straight conference wins.

Under LaForte, the Bears have tied or set 28 school offensive records since 2006 with the fast paced, no huddle style offensive approach. He converted Christian George from a wide receiver to a quarterback and George was named the NEFC Bogan Division Offensive Player of the Year in both 2006 and 2007. He also coached three All-Division quarterbacks in the last four years and coached a pair of record setting wide receivers in Sam England and (most career receptions) and Eric Gerken (most receptions in a single-season).

This past season, the Bears set a school-record with 3,661 yards of total offense, 2,694 passing yards and 24 touchdown passes and the team was second in the nation with just two fumbles lost. In 2007, the Bears set a NEFC record with 684 yards of total offense in a single game.               

Ray has a history of mentoring quarterbacks as he worked with Jeff Blake in 1991 at East Carolina the same season Blake finished seventh in the Heisman Trophy voting as the Pirates finished the season ninth in the final AP poll.

At Coast Guard, he coached a pair of quarterbacks, Niles Pierson (2006) and John Resch (2009) who won the prestigious Gold Helmet from the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston.

LaForte a 25-year coaching veteran, spent five seasons as the Defensive Coordinator at Ithaca, sharing an office with current Coast Guard head coach Bill George.
    
While at Ithaca, LaForte coached four first team All-America selections and the Bombers made a trip to the 1994 NCAA Semifinals and won two ECAC Championships (1996, 1998). In 1998, his punt return team led the NCAA in yards per return.
    
LaForte was also an assistant lacrosse coach at Ithaca for five seasons.
    
Prior to coaching at Ithaca, LaForte was a graduate assistant at East Carolina from 1991-1993.
   
Ray, his wife Michelle and children Michael (13), Mason (11) and Madison (6) reside in Quaker Hill.
