Commander Darell Singleterry begins his fifth season as a defensive assistant. He was also an assistant coach during the 2001 and 2002 seasons.
    
He was a Delaware All-State athlete in both wrestling and football in high school and played both at Delaware State where he was a safety/linebacker and was part of three championship teams as the Hornets won a pair of MEAC co-championships in 1988 and 1991 and won the championship outright in 1989.
    
Darell has also completed numerous years as an assistant coach with the Academy wrestling team.  Darell is an associate professor in the Department of Management and has spent the majority of his Coast Guard career at the Academy, including a tour in the Office of Admissions.
