#3 MIT Beats Bears
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(1/11/12)--Senior Noel Hollingsworth had a game-high 24 points while junior Will Tashman added 21 points and a game-high 14 rebounds as MIT, ranked third nationally, improved to 15-0 with an 83-55 win over Coast Guard in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.
MIT, which also improved to 3-0 in conference play, jumped out to a 14-3 lead in the first five minutes of play and led 43-24 at halftime.
Coast Guard (6-6, 0-3), which dropped its third straight, scored the first five points of the second half cutting the deficit to 43-29 and the Bears trailed 59-44 with 11:37 left before the Engineers used a 12-2 spurt to put the Bears away taking a 71-46 lead with 6:42 remaining.
Senior Jamie Karraker was also in double figures with 11 points for MIT.
Sophomore Devonte Weems led Coast Guard with 11 points while junior Jimmy Knudsen finished with ten points in the loss. Freshman David Anderson led the Bears with seven rebounds.
MIT shot 45.3 percent from the floor (29-64) while hitting six of 20 from 3-point range (30 percent) while Coast Guard was held to a season-low 31.3 shooting from the field (21-67) while making five of 17 from behind the arc.
