New London, Conn. – Junior guard Matt Vadas scored 17 of his game-high 19 points during the first half to lead Connecticut College to a 68-33 win in the consolation game of the Citizens Bank Camel/Cadet Classic. Vadas finished the night going six of eight from the floor, including going three of four from three point range and added five rebounds for the host Camels. Conn. College improves to 2-4 on the season while Coast Guard falls to 1-4.
Trailing 13-10 with 13:47 to play, Coast Guard was only able to muster six more points in the half as the Camels finished off the half on a 33-6 run. Vadas led the charge with 12 points during the run, including a span of seven straight. Junior guard Tyrone Turner added nine of his 11 in the opening half as the Camels forced 15 Coast Guard turnovers in the half, and held a 45-16 advantage at the break.
Coast Guard senior Greg Marshall went four of five from the field for eight points in the opening frame.
The second half was more of the Camels as they forced ten more Coast Guard turnovers en route to a 68-33 win.
Marshall finished with nine points to go with five rebounds and two blocks while senior Jimmy Knudsen added six points and six rebounds. Freshman Avierre Conner and junior Devonte each chipped in with four points each.
Freshman Jared Shill finished with nine points and eight rebounds for the Camels while junior John Bullitt added nine of his own to go with three rebounds. Vadas also added a game-high five steals.
The Bears return to action on Wednesday, December 5th at rival Merchant Marine Academy. Tip-off is set for 6:00p.
