NEW LONDON, Conn. – Freshman Sean Graytok was 9 of 10 from the field and finished with a career-high 25 points and seven rebounds off the bench and Coast Guard scored the final 18 points of the game in a 85-66 win over MCLA in the final day of the Coaches vs. Cancer Tip-Off Tournament at Conn. College.
Graytok, who led the Bears with 16 points in the Saturday night win, earned a spot on the All-tournament team. He had eight of the 18 points in the run to end the game.
Coast Guard's freshmen accounted for 67 of the 85 points as the Baby Bears improved to 2-1 on the season with back-to-back wins.
Freshman Pat Witkowski added a career-high 16 points and eight rebounds while classmate Max Lampe had a career-best 13 points to go with five rebounds in the win. Sophomore Nolan Benson led the Bears with nine rebounds while sophomore Luke Daniels had career-high five assists.
Coast Guard, which trailed 41-40 at halftime, improves to 2-1 on the season.
The Bears trailed 62-58 with 11:21 left and the game was tied 64-64 with 9:27 left.
Keiland Cross would score for MCLA to cut the Bears lead to 67-66 with 8:23 left before the Bears would score the final 18 points of the game as the Trailblazers missed their final 13 field goal attempts of the game.
Coast Guard shot 50 percent from the floor in the win (33-66), hitting 6 of 19 from 3-point range while MCLA (0-3) was 25 of 72 (34.7 percent) including 4 of 13 from behind the arc.
The Bears, who are now 2-1 after back-to-back wins, are back in action at Salve Regina on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
