NEW LONDON, Conn. – Senior Nolan Benson had a game-high 20 points while freshman Tyler Perez added a career-high 18 points as Coast Guard won its fifth straight with a 91-70 win over Fisher in a non-conference game.
Benson, who has scored in double figures in all five games this season, was 8 of 12 from the floor while Perez, who had 15 of his 18 in the first half, was 6 of 9 from the field including 5 of 8 from behind the arc as Coast Guard improved to 5-0.
The Bears are off to their best start since the 2007-'08 season when the team started the season with nine straight wins and would win a school record 24 games and advance to the Elite 8 of the NCAA Tournament.
Junior Bryce Schroeder had a season-high 15 points as he connected on 4 of 7 from 3-point range, he had 14 of his 15 in the first half as Coast Guard was 11 of 24 from 3-point range in the first half and finished 13 of 37 from behind the arc.
Junior Sean Graytok added 10 points while classmate Justin Kane had a team-high 10 rebounds in the win.
Brandon Rembert led Fisher (3-7) with 14 points to go with nine rebounds while Chris Sorapuru and Jhalen Lumpkins each added 11 for the Falcons. Sorapuru had a game-high 11 rebounds.
Coast Guard jumped out to a 16-4 lead in the first five minutes. The Falcons would close the margin to 38-32 on a 3-pointer by Sorapuru with 4:37 left in the half before the Bears scored 13 straight and closed the half on a 17-3 run to lead 55-35 at the half.
The Bears led by as many as 26 in the second half, 89-63 with 2:12 left.
Coast Guard shot 47.2 percent from the field (34-72) and the Bears forced 23 turnovers while Fisher was 26 of 67 from the floor (38.8 percent) while connecting on 7 of 17 from long range.
The Bears are back in action on Sunday when they travel to archrival Merchant Marine for a 2:00 tip.
