STORRS, Conn.-Following a week in which they had to push through wavering conditions, the Coast Guard men's rowing team raced hard today and were rewarded with a third place finish out of four at the UConn Invitational.
The race was important in recapturing the momentum gained by the team over spring break. In competing the Bears were able to get some momentum as the finished ahead of Division I UConn in the regatta, but being edged out by Trinity and Division I Marist, whom finished first and second, respectively.
Following the race, Coach Mike Shugrue, who was a bit disappointed with the result stated, "the team will be re-assessing our objectives for this coming week of practice and we will be working hard towards a better performance at UMass Lowell."
The race was delayed a half hour at the start due to windy conditions and only the varsity boats were able to race before the rest of the regatta was canceled due to unsafe conditions.
