Bears V8 Takes Second in Petite Final at NE Championships

WORCESTER, Mass.--The Bears Varistyy 8 adopted a new work ethic eight months ago and have worked tirelessly through the winter and early spring to redefine the Men's program. Since the Men returned to the water in March they have continually built boat speed from week to week and reached new level on Saturday.

The Varsity boat was in lane #4 in a fast heat including Trinity, Wesleyan, WPI, BC, Colby and UConn – although finishing 5th in the heat they posted their fastest 2k time of the season (6:09) and dropped 13 seconds from last week at the Onata Cup Vs. Williams & Ithaca.

Pushing off dock for Petite Finals the Varsity men were resolute in holding to their objective of redefining the program.  The competition included Boston College, UNH, Middlebury, Colby, and UVM – Off the start through the first 300 meters Coast Guard jumped to an assertive lead with Middlebury and put open water on all remaining crews. Through the 1000 meter mark Coast Guard set the tempo of the race and separated from Middlebury. At the 1250 meter through 2000 meter mark the Bears engaged in a battle with Boston College finishing second, 2.7 seconds off Boston College.
