Bears Compete at Head of the Housatonic

SHELTON, Conn. – The Bears competed at the Head of the Housatonic on Saturday.

The Bears Varsity 8 had an injury which forced first year coach Bill Randall, a former Coast Guard rower to fill the two seat and allow the crew to race in an exhibition.

The Open Eight line was:

Cox Keemiya Pourmonir
8 Daniel Beacon
7 Duncan Quinn
6 Michael Brachman
5 Andrew Niedbala
4 Logan Hutson
3 Stephen Bruno
2 Coach Randall
1 John-Paul Yalov

The eight performed well enough that they would have placed third by time and that was with pulling the old coach up the river.

In the Open Novice Eight race the crew had another strong race and finished second by 0.6 seconds to the University of Connecticut and beating UConn's second and third novice boat, RPI, and Wentworth Tech's A & B boats by a large margin.

Here was the Bears lineup:
Cox - Michaela Hepler
8 - Michael Zeller
7 - Walter Daniels
6 - Jerett Jenkins
5 - Ian Hopper
4 - Thorn Nelthropp
3 - James Fitzpatrick
2 - Dustin Smith
1 - Josh Brown

In the Open 4 races, because of the injury the line-ups for the 4s were also switched and they placed fourthed and fifth with the upper class boat outpacing the freshmen boat by three seconds.

Lineups were
(A boat)

Cox Keemiya Pourmonir
4 Daniel Beacon
3 Duncan Quinn
2 Logan Hutson
1 John-Paul Yalov

(B boat)

Cox - Michaela Hepler
4 Michael Brachman

The Bears are back in action next weekend in Boston at the Head of the Charles.
