Bears Set to Host Archrival Merchant Marine on Saturday

MERCHANT MARINE (0-0) AT COAST GUARD (1-0)

Merchant Marine opens the 2016 season while the Bears look to remain unbeaten following a season-opening 16-6 win over Becker on Wednesday afternoon.

In the season opener, senior Louis DePaolis had a career-high four goals to lead the Bears at home.

DePaolis'  four goals ties for the most goals in a single game in program history with Matt and Justin Huemme, who each had four goals in different games last season. Sophomore Matt Huemme had three goals and freshman Jack Pope had his first career goal and hat trick in the win. Senior Blaise Curtis had two assists and a goal for the Bears.

Leading the Hawks was sophomore Avyay Chaganty who had a team high two goals and an assist. Junior Daniel Johnson and senior Ryan Kearny each had a goal and two assists.

Coast Guard jumped out to a 4-0 lead as Matt Huemme scored two goals and freshman Anthony Wyler and Pope each had their first collegiate career goals in the first quarter.

Last year Merchant Marine beat the Bears 19-9 in the first ever NCAA game for Coast Guard.

Coast Guard leads Merchant Marine 8-5 in the race for the Superintendent's Trophy heading to the Spring season.
