BRONX, N.Y. – Coast Guard won their fifth game of the season topping Maritime (N.Y.) by a final score of 12-8 Thursday night in non-conference action.
With the win the Bears improve to 5-1 and while the Privateers take their first loss of the season and fall to 5-1.
Coast Guard was led by Riley McNulty who had a game high seven points scoring three goals and handing out four assists. Senior Matt Huemme had two goals and an assist and junior Benner Geurtsen finished with a goal and two assists. Freshman Matty Johnson ended the game tallying two points on a goal and an assist.
Maritime had three different players lead the team with two goals as freshman Matt DeMeo, senior Nick Pellegrino and senior Ian Danahy each finished with a pair of scores.
The Bears were never behind in the contest as they came out and scored the first two goals of the game as junior Ian Logan converted a pass from McNulty while Geurtsen combined with freshman Connor Rowan for the second goal of the game.
After holding a four goal lead at the half (7-3), Coast Guard pushed their lead to six (11-5) with 7:45 left in the fourth quarter behind two goals from McNulty.
The Privateers put on a late charge scoring three of the final four goals of the game but ran out of time as the Bears held them at bay, taking the 12-8 win.
Junior Trey Johnson (5-1) made 14 saves on 22 shots on goal. Johnson leads the NEWMAC with a 6.64 goals-against average.
Senior Brendan McNally (5-1) made 25 saves on 37 shots on goal after Coast Guard peppered the cage with 50 total shots.
Coast Guard is back in action on Tuesday, March 27th when the Bears travel across the street to take on No. 20 Conn. College. Opening face-off is 7:00 PM.
