NEW LONDON, Conn. – Coast Guard had 13 different goal scorers in the team's non-conference 21-1 victory over Mitchell Wednesday evening.
With the win, the Bears improve to 9-2 while the Mariners drop to 0-10.
Sophomore Riley McNulty led all scorers with six points on three goals and three assists. Senior Matt Huemme has a season high three goals while sophomore Jacob Groff had a career high four points with a goal and three assists. Freshman Will Iorio finished with two goals and two assists and junior Cole Hudson netted three goals as well.
Freshman Jesses McKeever was the lone goal scorer for Mitchell.
Coast Guard scored seven goals in the first quarter led by five points from McNulty. They added five more in the second period propelling the Bears to a 12-0 halftime lead.
Coast Guard continued to roll in the second half with nine more goals, allowing a single goal by the Mariners on the way to the teams 21-1 victory.
Sophomore Charles McAllister (1-0) made two saves and allowed one goal in his first career start. Freshman Josh Ordonez appeared in his second game this season playing the fourth quarter and making one save.
Freshman Marcel Quinlan (0-10) made seven saves in the loss.
The Bears had a season high 47 ground balls and 16 caused turnovers led by sophomore Logan Morin who had seven and junior Nicholas Wittrock and sophomore Connor Gallagher who each had four ground balls. Freshman Ryan McNary had a career high eight caused turnovers which is the second highest total in a single game in program history.
Coast Guard is back in action on Saturday, April 14th, when they travel Army-West Point to take on rival Merchant Marine. Opening face-off is 3:00 pm.
