Bears Shutout Bucs in NEWMAC action

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. -  Coast Guard recorded their first shutout in program history topping Mass. Maritime 13-0 in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Saturday night.

With the win, the Bears improve to 11-3 overall and 4-1 in the conference while the Buccaneers fall to 5-7 on the season and 0-5 in the NEWMAC.

Freshman Will Iorio tallied a career high six points scoring two goals and dishing out four assists. Junior Benner Geurtsen finished with three goals and one assist while classmate Jack Pope scored two goals. Sophomore Riley McNulty had three points on the night as well with two goals and one assist.

The Bears did the majority of their damage in the second quarter scoring five goals with Geurtsen scoring three straight to start the period.

Junior Trey Johnson (10-3), sophomore Charles McAllister and freshman Josh Ordonez combined for the shutout with McAllister leading the way with five saves.

Michael Dolan (5-7) took the loss for the Buccaneers making 11 saves and allowing 12 goals. Matthew Pierson played the final 15:00 minutes allowing one goal and making four saves.

Coast Guard won 11-15 face-offs led by junior Colin Cashin, who won 6-8 with three ground balls.

The Bears are back in action on Wednesday, April 25th when they host the Emerson Lions to celebrate senior day. Opening face-off is 7:00 pm.
