MIDDLETOWN, Conn.-- Coast Guard men's lacrosse fell 17-6 to #1 Wesleyan on the road on Wednesday night. The Bears are now 2-2 while the Cardinals improves to 2-0.
Carter Hawthorne led Wesleyan with a game-high four goals and one assist. Colin Uyeki and Matt Chase both added hat tricks of their own. Ronan Jacoby chipped in with two goals and five other players added a goal apeiece for Wesleyan.
Junior Riley McNulty lead the Bears with a hat trick. Senior Benner Geurtsen added two goals and one assists and freshman Logan Tobias scored his first career goal. Senior Connor Ellis had a game-high three caused turnovers and grabbed three ground balls.
Wesleyan opened the game with a 10-goal run to hold a 10-0 advantage at the half.
Geurtsen opened the second half, as he put the Bears on the board, 14-1 at 13:05. The goal was the lone goal for the Bears in the third quarter.
McNulty notched his first of the game at 13:50 in the fourth quarter as he sparked a three goal run with help from Geurtsen and Tobias, to cut the deficit 14-4. Wesleyan scored the following two goals to extend the lead 16-4 but Coast Guard answered as McNulty put away his final two goals of the game as the Bears trailed 16-6. Wesleyan scored the final goal to secure the 17-6 final.
The Bears are back in action on Saturday in the first game of a Coast Guard men's and women's lacrosse doubleheader at the US Lacrosse Complex in Sparks, Maryland at 12:00 PM.
