GOREHAM, Maine--Victor Ferreira scored his second goal of the game with 24 seconds left in overtime leading UMass Dartmouth to a season-opening 2-1 win over Coast Guard in the Southern Maine Soccer Classic.
"The match was played at a high level and you need to give their goal scorer credit," said Coast Guard head coach Chris Parsons. "He finished on the two chances they had in the game."
Coast Guard took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Joe Bodzewski in the 12th minute with Walter Heaney assisting.
The Corsairs tied the match on a goal by Ferreira in the 33rd minute.
The Bears outshot UMass Dartmouth 14-9 and Will Leffler made three saves in goal for the Bears.
"We played very well, hard and creative, but we lacked the final touch or finish that would have given us a deserved victory," said Parsons. "I hope we can build off many of the things we did well today in our match tomorrow. It will come quick, so the guys will need to get some rest."
