BOSTON, Mass.-The defending ECAC men's soccer champion, Coast Guard, has been voted to finish fourth in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference's first-ever preseason poll, as voted by the head coaches of the league's eight member schools.
Babson, winners of at least a share of five straight NEWMAC regular season titles, is the favorite in 2013, according to the poll. The Beavers received five first-place votes to secure the top spot. Defending tournament champion, MIT, Coast Guard, and Wheaton each earned one first place vote.
NEWMAC Tournament runner-up Springfield was tabbed fifth, followed by WPI and Clark, at numbers six and seven, respectively. Emerson, in their debut season in the league rounded out the rankings.
The Bears finished last season with a mark of 13-6-2, including a 4-1-1 record in conference play. The team will return 10 of their 11 starters from a season ago when they open the 2013 campaign on Friday, August 30, when they host the Huskies of Southern Maine.
