NEW LONDON, Conn.-For the second week in a row, Coast Guard junior goalkeeper Richie Burns was named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference men's soccer Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the league.
Burns allowed just one goal while logging 200 minutes in net to help Coast Guard to an undefeated weekend at the Gary Smith Invitational Tournament hosted by St. Joseph's College (L.I.).
On Saturday night Burns recorded eight saves while allowing just one goal in an opening round draw against SUNY-New Paltz. In the third place game on Sunday he added three saves while posting his second shutout in three starts this season.
He posted a combined .917 save percentage and registered a 0.45 goals against average over the weekend. For the year, Burns is now 2-0-1, with a 0.31 goals against average and a .929 save percentage.
Coast Guard (2-0-1) returns to action on Saturday, September 14th when they travel to take on archrival Merchant Marine at 11:00 am.
