NEW LONDON, Conn.-Coast Guard junior Richie Burns has been named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for his performance this past week. The honor is the third of the season Burns and the fifth of his career at the Academy.
Burns was tremendous in goal over the weekend in a win-or-go-home situation at Springfield for the Bears. Burns would record nine saves on the afternoon, no less than four of which were game-saving stops as Coast Guard clinched the number four seed in the upcoming tournament. The victory at Springfield was the first for Coast Guard since 2009.
Coast Guard wrapped up the regular season with a record of 8-7-3 (3-3-1 NEWMAC) and will host Springfield on Wednesday, November 6th at 7:00 pm in the first round of the conference tournament.
