GOREHAM, MAINE – Junior Alex Lane scored the only goal of the game in the 60th minute leading Coast Guard to a 1-0 win over Bridgewater State at the Southern Maine Invitational.
Coast Guard improves to 2-0 on the season with its second straight one goal win to open the year while Bridgewater State drops to 1-1.
Senior Trey Chamberlain was named the tournament MVP while senior Matthew Bogdan, Lane and junior Lukas Benedetto, who scored the game winning goal in overtime on Friday, were all named to the All-tournament team.
Senior Richie Burns made three saves to register his first shutout of the season and the 17th of his career.
Sophomore Brad McNell assisted on the Lane goal 14:45 into the second half.
Colin Jepson made six saves in goal for Bridgewater.
"2-0 is a great way to start the season, especially with a win over an NCAA tournament from last year," said Coast Guard head coach Chris Parsons. "Alex's goal was a special strike from 18 out. Chamberlain and Bogdan were very good in the midfield."
Coast Guard outshot Bridgewater State 12-7.
