GORHAM, Maine – Senior Kyle Mutti scored in the 110th minute of the second overtime as the Coast Guard men's soccer team dropped their season opener to Westfield State 1-0 Friday afternoon at the Husky Fall Classic hosted by the University of Southern Maine.
The Bears held an advantage in the first half outshooting the Owls 6-4 and forcing sophomore Sean Moore to make four saves in the first period. Only one of Westfield's shots was on frame early in the half forcing sophomore goalkeeper Dakota Harich to make one save.

After a fairly neutral first overtime period, the game looked like it was going to end as a draw before freshman Paul Soucy sent a cross in front side to Mutti who connected with a header for his first goal of the season and the game winner.
Harich (0-1) made three saves on four shots on goal while Moore (1-0), in his first career start and appearance, made eight saves one nine shots on goal with a team save completing the shutout.
"Very happy with the performance, but not the result," commented head coach Chris Parsons. "We played some excellent soccer and created numerous chances. Unfortunately none found the back of the net. We will move on to tomorrow in search of a W!"
Coast Guard is back in action tomorrow, September 2nd, when they take on Castleton in the final day of Husky Fall Classic.
