NEW LONDON, Conn. – Coast Guard Academy sophomore defender Brock Hassett has been named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men's Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week as the Bears registered a pair of wins to push their unbeaten streak to four.
Hassett scored the game winning goal in the 2-0 win over Mitchell while he and the back line also held Wheaton, the second highest scoring team in the NEWMAC scoreless in the Bears 1-0 win over the Lyons. It was Coast Guard's first win over Wheaton since the 2008 season.
Coast Guard has posted three straight shutouts and leads the NEWMAC with six shutouts this season. The Bears are 6-2-1 overall and 2-1 in the conference.
Senior Jake Sorenson is 4-1-1 with a 0.65 goals against average and three shutouts while sophomore Dakota Harich is 2-1 with 0.31 goals against average with two shutouts.
The Bears are back in action tonight when they host CCNY in a non-conference game at 5:00.
