WORCESTER, Mass. –The Coast Guard men's soccer team notched their eighth shutout of the season as they topped Clark 3-0 in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Bears improve to 8-2-1 on the season and 3-1 in the conference. The Cougars fall to 5-4-3 overall and 1-2-1 in the NEWMAC.
Junior Alex Hall scored two goals for Coast Guard and now leads the team with five goals on the season. He is tied for sixth in the conference as well. Senior Luke Telang scored his third goal of the season while Juniors Quintin Parsons and Noah Harper and Senior Ryan Dandan each tallied an assist.
Coast Guard scored the game's first goal in the 33rd minute as Parsons found Hall on the right side of Clark's penalty box. Hall then fired a shot past Connor Maguire into the roof of the net for the 1-0 lead going into the half.
The Bears added to their lead in the second half as Harper found Hall with a pass in the 55th minute. Hall deposited the pass in the back of the net for his second of the game and the 2-0 lead.
Telang wrapped up the scoring for Coast Guard in the 62nd minute as he took a pass from Dandan and fired it home for the game's final goal in the 3-0 victory.
Senior Jake Sorenson (5-1-1) tallied his fourth shutout of the season making five saves on five shots on goal. The team leads the NEWMAC with eight total shutouts.
Maguire (4-3-3) made four saves on seven shots on goal allowing the three goals.
The Bears are back in action on Tuesday, October 10th when they host NESCAC foe Williams for the first time since 1991. Opening kickoff is 4:00.
