WESTWOOD, Mass. - Senior Austin Read was named New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Defensive Player of the Year while senior Ryan Dandan was named first team All-NEWMAC and senior Luke Telang was selected to the second team announced by the conference office Tuesday morning.
Read earned Defensive Player of the Year honors after a stellar season anchoring the Bears back four. He led a Coast Guard defense that was 12th in the nation in shutout percentage (.611), second in the conference and 18th in the nation in goals against average (0.58) and second in the conference in total shutouts (11). Read is a two time second team All-NEWMAC selection, 2016 third team All-Region selection and a 2016 third team CoSIDA Academic All-America selection. He has started 71 of 73 games in his collegiate career tallying 26 points on 12 goals and two assists.
Dandan was a key facilitator in the middle of the Coast Guard offense. He finished the year with one goal and four assists giving him 29 points for his career (eight goals, 13 assists). Dandan was a second team All-NEWMAC selection in 2016.
Telang earned second team All-NEWMAC honors for the first time in career after scoring four goals and adding on assist this season. He was a spark for the Coast Guard offense all season and notched two game winning goals in 2017. Telang finishes his career with 35 points amazzing 14 goals and seven assists.
The three seniors combined for 37 wins, three NEWMAC Tournament appearances and one NCAA Tournament selection.
