Bears Shutout Mitchell 4-0

NEW LONDON, Conn.-- Coast Guard men's soccer used four different goal scorers in the first half to take down Mitchell 4-0 in their first home victory of the season on Tuesday evening. The Bears are now 4-4, while Mitchell falls to 1-5-1.

Senior Taka Lendon put the Bears on the board first in the 7th minute as he received a through ball from classmate Gio Ottomanelli inside the Mariners box to put away his first goal of the season.

Sophomore Mike Daunt tallied his fourth goal of the season five minutes later as Ledon carried the ball to the endline and found Daunt cutting through the box to give the Bears a 2-0 lead.

The Bears took a 3-0 lead when junior Daniel Taglianetti sent a cross to sophomore Robbie Fugett, who buried a header past Mitchell's senior goalkeeper Seth Strader in the 20th minute.

Freshman Noah Engstrom gave the Bears their fourth and final goal of the game in the 30th minute as junior Patrick Morris found Engstrom wide open in the box to score his second goal of the season.

Coast Guard outshot Mitchell, 27-7 and had a 10-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Coast Guard junior goalkeeper James Morrison made six saves in victory and is now 2-1 on the season. Strader had seven saves for the Mariners and drops to 1-5-1 on his season.

Coast Guard is back in NEWMAC action on Saturday. September 28 when they travel to Emerson for a 1:00 PM kickoff.
