Strong Second Half Lifts WPI Over Bears

WORCESTER, Mass.-- Senior Jackson Conroy scored two goals in the second half as WPI defeated Coast Guard men's soccer 3-0 in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Saturday afternoon. Coast Guard drops to 7-7 on the season and 1-4 in conference play, while WPI improves to 8-2-4 overall and 3-0-2 in the NEWMAC.

After a scoreless first half, Conroy put WPI on the board in the 54th minute off a free kick with help from classmates Brandon Hima and Luke Reiniger. He tallied his second of the game in the 64th minute coming from another free kick, this time from freshman Francesco Valagussa.

Freshman David Lapointe scored the third goal for the Engineers also on a free kick by sophomore Mike Biando in the 83rd minute.

WPI junior goalkeeper Rufus Adams made four saves for his shutout as he improves to 7-4-2 on the season. Coast Guard senior goalkeeper Dakota Harich made one save for the Bears as he drops to 4-5 on the season.

WPI had a 12-9 advantage in shots for and a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Coast Guard is back in action on the road on Tuesday, October 22 at Mass Maritime at 7:00 PM.
